Welcome

Welcome to the Crofthead Concerts website.

The Crofthead Concerts are promoted by Neilston Live [the cultural arm of The Neilston Development Trust] and have but one aim:  to bring wonderful, exciting and authentic live music to everyone in the community and our many visitors and friends.

The home of the concerts is The Crofthead Hall, Neilston, one of Scotland’s finest and most intimate music venues, where the warmth of the acoustics is matched by its cosy atmosphere.

The village of Neilston is cradled in the Renfrewshire hills but within 25 minutes by car or train from Glasgow.  For a longer stay, try the Uplawmoor Hotel, minutes by car from the village.

The next show features Mairearad Green and Anna Massie on Saturday 25th February.

Mairearad Green and Anna Massie- Saturday, 25th February 2012

Multi-instrumentalists and award winners, Mairearad Green (accordion and smallpipes) and Anna Massie (guitar, banjo, fiddle) are a captivating duo, providing a highly energetic performance with a warm and friendly stage presence.

Individually, they can be seen performing with a number of well-known artists, such as The Poozies, Blazin’ Fiddles, Karen Matheson, Bella Hardy, Box Club and Eddi Reader, and together in Scotland’s one and only Celtic Big Band, The Unusual Suspects.

Having both grown up in the Scottish Highlands with similar musical backgrounds (most notably, mandolin playing Dads!) Mairearad and Anna share an innate understanding of Scottish culture and music. Having played together for ten years, they have an intuitive approach to each other’s musical ideas and interpretations.

Their performance at Celtic Connections in Glasgow kicked off 2011 for them in spectacular style, gaining them a five-star review in The Scotsman. Throughout April, the duo toured the length and breadth of Scotland, taking in 17 dates, from the Borders to Orkney, followed by standout performances at the Hebridean Celtic Festival, SpeyFest and the Sidmouth Folk Week.

“There is an almost telepathic communication between the two musicians.” Hi-Arts

“Anna Massie on guitar, fiddle and banjo, Mairearad Green on accordion and smallpipes – adds up to a wide palette of permutations, most of which featured in this relaxed, highly enjoyable performance…shifting the lead/accompanist balance, swapping and sharing the melody,  harmony, chords and rhythms with deceptive fluency.”

The Scotsman (June 2010)

The young Scottish duo of accordionist Mairearad Green and Anna Massie, on guitar and banjo…in sparkling style, performed largely original material with frequent playfulness of delivery… belying their formidable technical prowess, in music that seemed much more than the sum of just two parts
